Great Expectations is a novel that consists of a young and innocent kid who is found to be in a cruel and unfair world by the reader from the beginning of the story. As the story progresses, the reader is able to follow this young boy by the name of Phillip Pirrip (Pip) throughout his childhood into his early adulthood. All throughout his adventure in his hometown and Little Britain, Pip is constantly put through obstacles though even are difficult, Pip is able to rise victorious through despite the failure to continue in the state that was expected.
A bildungsroman is basically a story in which the main character is forced to learn a lesson the difficult way, but is rewarded with a happy ending. Great Expectations meets these requirements to be referred to as a bildungroman. However, some may debate that the ending wasn't necessarily a happy resolution, but that can be classified as a controversial topic. This is due to the fact that it is an ending that requires the reader to use his/her imagination to complete the ending which makes it a biased opinion. Therefore, one can conclude by choosing whether they consider Great Expectations based on their interpretation of the ending of this novel. Undoubtely, I pictured Great Expectations to end happily due to the fact that Pip has now matured as an adult and has been able to create his own name in society with his own discretion. This is an experience that will remain an everlasting memory in someone's mind. However, it isn't always a smart idea since things may not always go as expected.
